Our
student group is not the typical church student group of parties,
music and outings. Although we do include fun and fellowship into
our programs for students, we also emphasize serious Bible Study
and a commitment to Community Service.
The CREW ministry
is designed specifically for grades 9 through 12. The IGNITE group
is designed for grades 5 through 8. The IGNITE group meets on Wednesday
nights from 7-8 p.m. and the CREW meets Mondays 7-9 p.m.
The mission
of the CREW is to "create asylum, fuel the burn, and fight
injustice." We strive to create a safe and comfortable environment
for all of our students and their friends. We hope to provide an
atmosphere welcoming to discussion, questions, disagreements, and
revelations.
We also desire
to "fuel the burn" or passion for Christ and the lessons
He has for us. Through study, discussion and hands-on opportunities
to serve, we encourage the students to seek Christ with “recklessness”
and enthusiasm and a hunger for more.
Finally, the
mission that the CREW has taken on is to seek out injustices within
our schools, neighborhoods, communities, and throughout the world
and then to seek to make a difference in these situations.
The CREW meets
weekly to hang out, get to know one another, and to learn more about
Christ's desire for our lives. We also meet through the month to
go out and get away from the daily burdens our students face with
activities such as thrift shopping, go-karting, wall climbing, etc.
Several times a year we perform services within the community to
help teach the students to "give back" and serve as Christ
came to serve. The CREW also offers several large trip and retreat
opportunities throughout the year to provide for once in a life
time experiences.
Our
Staff
The CREW is
led by Patrick Propst, Assoc. Pastor as well as a team of 8 awesome
volunteer staff. Please join us on a Monday night at 7:00-9:00pm
or for another fun event and see what we're all about!
Our
Name
The
Crew - the name actually was given to our group when we were serving
at Hope Hill in Kentucky one summer. The coordinator we were working
with wrote us a note thanking us for what "the crew" had
done while we were there that week. When we began talking about
names for the student ministry the CREW was suggested as part of
that brainstorming--coupled with the idea that if Jesus and the
disciples were around today they probably wouldn't be called disciples,
but would take on the word that was more familiar today...maybe,
the crew. And since we see ourselves as a group of people trying
to follow Jesus we could call ourselves - The Crew.
Our
Mission
We also have
the three phases that help to explain who we are in short...
Fueling
the Burn
Creating a passionate
fire in the hearts of students similar to that of the disciples
in the story of the road to Emmaus in Luke 24.13-34 emphasizing
vs 32
Creating
Asylum
We believe students
have a number of influences in their life that put heavy burdens
and pressure upon them. We want students to have a place where they
can come and place all those pressures and burdens aside and can
be themselves. They can meet their friends here. They can feel safe.
They don't feel pressured and they can talk and discuss things that
matter to them with people that care about them and want to be available
as friends, mentors and a source of encouragement.
Fighting
Injustice
This is our
newest element to The Crew. It came about when we took the time
this last winter as a group to hear and learn what is going on in
our communities and around the world that is oppressing and exploiting
people, mainly children. The students and our staff chose to gather
around this cause and to do what they could to raise awareness,
share the stories of the oppressed and help through funding to aid
in the rescue and relief of these victims. In addition to supporting
the ministries of International Justice Mission, IJM, we are also
looking into other areas and ministries that we can pour our time,
energy and resources into to fulfill what called has called us to
do - "to seek justice, to love mercy and to walk humbly with
our God."
